One of the best pieces of work created for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who was definitely The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, it was tongue in cheek, self aware, funny, incredibly well made and had more cameos than a cameo shop that’s just restocked. Ever since The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, people have been wondering if and when there’ll be a sequel; this is why I think we might actually get one this year…
Did you know that there’s going to be a slight hiatus of Doctor Who during 2016? Apparently all we’re getting is the Christmas special and the new spin-off Class; I don’t know if you were aware, but that’s what’s happening. Now, if you somehow haven’t seen The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, I highly recommend that you watch it before you read the rest of the article; luckily for you though, I’ve sourced it on Vimeo and have embedded it below, so make sure you check it out!
So you’ve watched it now? Good. Did you enjoy it? Of course you did. Now, the storyline of the FISH Doctors (I’m going to call it from now to save me typing the whole title every time) is basically that Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and, to an extent, Paul McGann are all wondering if they’re going to be asked by Steven Moffat to be in the 50th anniversary special and then try their best to get in it somehow anyway. In previous interviews talking on the possibility of a FISH Doctors 2 storyline, Peter Davison has said it’s possible if the script was right. This is the perfect year for the script to be right!
Imagine a story where the Fifth through Eighth Doctors hear that there’s going to be no new Doctor Who on TV this year, so they decide to just go out and make their own episodes to get on the BBC at some point in the year; this year they’re not needing to share the limelight with New-Who, they can instead try and bring back the wobble of the Classic series to a whole new audience. It could be absolutely hilarious to see these guys rocking back and forth in a TARDIS and making their own cheap effects and prosthetics; it would be a love song to the Classic era and some absolute comedy gold.
Now, I have no idea if this is actually going to happen, and if I’m being perfectly honest, I doubt that it will; but all I’m saying is, if any of the Classic Doctors are reading this (and I know that you all are) at least consider this? It would be great, and I’m sure that if you needed some money to shoot it, the Whovians would rally up some cash to get the ball rolling; especially with perks on sites such as Kickstarter. Also, if you need a devilishly handsome and modest Doctor Who website content creator, you’re more than welcome to get in touch and I’ll see what I can do to help!
